Passion for Power

First of all what is power ?

Power is by many definitions the ability to control or to influence someone or something.

Passion for power then would be the fiery need to pursue a goal in the hope of influencing or controlling a situation or a person or the self.

Hope itself is mentioned in the tales of Hesiod as being the only good virtue that humans could hope to find in Pandora. Of a thousand possible words eminating from Pandora's box only one could save humanity from itself.

So which is it that one should look for ?

Is it passion for power ?

Is it power of passion ?

Passion is the desire to create things and passion can be a good thing or a bad thing. Some people are passionate about killing while other people are passionate about procreating. Which is right and which is wrong is a matter of ethics and how one perceives the supernatural world. If there is no life after death then killing seems like a no brainer. But if there is penalty in the quintessential divine cosmos after the soul leaves the body then killing is definitely a cause for concern. I prefer to think that there is a spiritual realm that will balance the objective of the greater good. So i choose to think that killing is not only ethically wrong but it is negative passion.

So the power of passion should be used to create stuff which will lead to the better good of humanity while being pleasant for the greater good of the divine cosmos of the universe.

So how does one develop a passion for power ?

What are some powerful things to strive for ?

Say that i want a power boat, does that mean that i have a passion for power ?

Say that i want the job of leading my company, does that mean that i have a passion for power ?

Are all powerful people passionate people ?

There are so many questions that one could spend a lifetime just studying this one aspect of passion.

Negotiators, which we are all to some degree, use power to achieve results.

But there are several types of power.

The website "everyone negotiates" lists the following ten types:

  1. position
  2. knowledge or expertise
  3. character or ethics
  4. rewards
  5. punishment
  6. gender
  7. powerlessness
  8. charisma or personal power
  9. lack of interest or desire
  10. craziness

In other studies of power and management one will often find five types of powers which are reward, coercive, legitimate, referent, and expert.

So having a passion for power might mean that one has to come to understand which of these types best suits a given situation and applying the correct knowledge in order to influence the end results.

Similar to negotiating for power in business one negotiates for power in personal relationships. Again like any other passion, the passion for power can and often does became abused.

Again we turn to the mother of creation, Pandora, and recall that there is only hope that can bring about sane results.

All people have a level of passion but not all passionate people are sane.

If power and the influence, good or bad that it has on people delivers karma, good or bad, then this video should be of value to those who wish to develop a passion for power.

You can't always get what you want but you always get back what you give.
